It is noteworthy that most allergic symptoms worsen after eating foods such as eggs, shellfish, fish, strawberries, pineapples, tomatoes, chocolate or drinking alcohol (especially wine and beer) or smoking. During allergies, the body reacts to them by producing additional histamine, therefore antihistamine drugs are recommended. Other foods that contain large quantities of histamine or release histamine cause serious allergic symptoms such as alcohol since red wine is one of the main triggers. It should be noted that each individual has a different level of tolerance for histamine, so different people will react differently to different histamine levels. If the histamine tolerance level is reached; it overflows causing allergic symptoms.
Fermentation of food leads to histamine and production as in cheese, grits, vinegar and alcoholic beverages. Unfortunately some foods contain extra natural quantities of histamine such as tomato, aubergines and spinach. Food additives including azo dyes, tartrazine and preservatives cause histamine release. Natural benzoates in some foods also cause histamine release, thus making them listed as those that must be avoided in order to reduce allergic symptoms.
Other foods that must be avoided
i) Meat, poultry and eggs to avoid: most of these products will produce high levels of histamine which cause histamine food poisoning known as scombriod especially fish, shellfish, anchovies and sardines if they start to get worse.
Egg products, with the exception of its other products, such as pancakes, bread, cakes and others, should also be avoided.
Avoid all processed, smoked or fermented meats such as sandwich meat, sausage, weiner, bologna, salami, peppers, smoked ham, bacon. In some of these foods the chemicals are used to treat them as in ham and meat giving a distinct pink color.
The leftovers are easily agitated by the bacteria, therefore the histamine is produced above all in the leftovers based on proteins kept at room temperature or in the refrigerator. To avoid this freeze all leftovers to stop histamine production.
ii) Dairy products to avoid: avoid all fermented dairy products such as cheese, yogurt, buttermilk and kefir, sour cream. When we say cheeses we include melted cheese, slices of cheese and spreads to be fermented and at the same time transformed; these include cheddar, coldby, gorgonzola, brie, camembert, feta, romano, ricotta and ricotta.
iii) Fruits to avoid: the list includes oranges, grapefruits, lemon, lime, cherries, grapes, apricots, avocados, raspberries, cranberries, plums, cranberries, dates, raisins, fresh or dried currants. In addition bananas, papayas, pineapples, strawberries and tomatoes to also release histamine.
iv) Vegetables to avoid: tomatoes and their products such as tomato sauces, ketchup and others, soy products, spinach, red beans, aubergines, pumpkin.
All vegetables packed in vinegar or salt such as olives, pickles, condiments and other fermented vegetables such as sauerkraut should be avoided.
v) Alcoholic drinks to avoid: Avoid all types of alcohol; including beer and wine for histamine.
Other foods to avoid in the control and treatment of urticaria are some; food additives and food coloring, seasons such as cinnamon, cloves, vinegar, chilli pepper, anise, nutmeg, soy sauce and curry powder, drinks such as tea, coffee, chocolate, cocoa, cola, alcohol and anything else that will cause allergies in you. We recommend taking lemon water at least 8 times a day.
