Let’s start with a question. Do you know what is the largest organ in your body? Think about it … then I’ll go ahead and tell you. It is your skin; the epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous tissue, all 3 layers form the largest organ of our body. Our skin is responsible for many different processes necessary to keep us safe and sound. It is the main defense mechanism between the internal mechanisms of our wonderful body and the sometimes harsh external environment in which we live every day.
Through our pores and hair follicles, fluids can pass in two directions. We all know that when we exercise physically, we sweat. On the contrary, when we come into contact with other substances suspended in the air, in the water or applied personally, we absorb everything that is contained in that external material. Studies have shown that the content of everything we apply to our skin, for example, lotion, sunscreen, makeup, etc., is absorbed into our bloodstream within 20 minutes.
For people who have allergies to certain foods, a diet regiment can be put in place. The same goes for those people who may be allergic to certain fluids. But what about those of us who have allergies to airborne particulates. Or, those of us who have hypersensitive skin. Let’s take medicine in the hope of being able to build a defense. Or maybe we have isolated some details, such as pet hair, herbs, perhaps some type of clothing material. Well, we can avoid some things on our own. But in the end, we have to go to work, shop, play and generally live.
I have been taking a specific drug for about 10 years. Although it was mostly successful, I still made several trips to the emergency room with huge hives, dangerously low blood pressure, fainting and occasional rush with breathing difficulties. If you have experienced it, you know the feeling. If not, trust me when I tell you, it’s not something you want to go through.
Over the years I have monitored my positions, exhibitions, seasons, times of the day, activities, all in an attempt to find out more, so that one day I can avoid these repetitive and frightening events. One thing I never really thought about was soap and detergents. I don’t know why exactly, I didn’t, until recently.
I started thinking about when I had had most of my allergic reactions. For me, it was not seasonal. But it was mainly during the hot spells of the time. Summer, of course, and during the Santa Ana winds of the fall I live in, and sometimes we get an Indian summer, a very hot period in the middle of winter. Either way, I’d be out and very hot. I would start sweating, my shirt would get drenched, and then within half an hour, I would start with a burst of rashes and hives as I had never seen in my entire day. Within the next hour I would pass out and wait for an ambulance to take me to the emergency room.
Well, about 6 months ago I was presented with a new green technology for my home, it’s called ‘Laundry Pure’. It was explained to me that if I had connected this device to my washing machine, I would no longer have to use detergent to clean my clothes. A bold statement, to say the least. I have used detergent to clean my clothes for over 50 years, and I have learned it from my parents, who have used it all their lives, and they have learned it from their parents … to get the picture. At first I was a bit suspicious, but the more I thought about it, the more I imagined I had nothing to lose and, if it worked, I had so much to gain. So I got one.
I would like to share with you that I haven’t felt so good in a long, long time. I started putting together all the pieces of the allergy puzzle and I think I have found a real solution to the problem. A real preventative measure to improve health, not just something the doctor gives me to mask the symptoms. My skin no longer flakes (Eczeme), I no longer receive urticaria and I have never gone to the hospital since I made the switch from detergent and then to “pure washing”.
I also encountered the most unexpected side benefit. Since I no longer use detergent, I no longer need to buy detergent. I also stopped using and buying fabric softener. And after installing the unit, I found that I no longer need to use hot water. The savings have been huge! The unit will pay for itself in the first 9 months. So not only am I getting healthier, saving money, reducing my “carbon footprint” and doing my part to help clean the environment, all at the same time.
