Autism and sulfur sensitivity – Part 2

An intervention doctor on biomedical autism explains:

A sensitivity to sulfite does not constitute an automatic allergy to sulfa drugs and vice versa. Many people with asthma who have obvious reactions to sulfites can many times have some in small quantities and not suffer adverse reactions. A sensitivity reaction to sulphites is not a true allergy as an allergy to sulfa drugs, and therefore allergy tests for sulphites are unreliable.

Sulphates are chemical compounds with sulfur surrounded by oxygen atoms. It is a derivative of sulfuric acid and can be complex with various minerals in the body to form stable compounds such as magnesium sulfate present in Epsom salt (which is used as a laxative or a muscle soothing aid in bath water). Some people may have sensitivity to sulfate, but it is doubtful whether it is really an immune reaction to sulfate or an immune reaction to chemicals attached to sulfate. Most commonly, a sensitivity to sulfate is a biochemical reaction from other sources and has nothing to do with an allergy. This brings us to the next discussion – sensitivity to the sulfur supplement.

Sulfur sensitivity can occur when too much homocysteine ​​is pushed through the trans-sulfurization pathway creating an abundance of sulfur compounds. This is particularly a problem if an enzyme called CBS is up-regulated creating greater production of sulfur by-products. These by-products can contribute to ammonia overproduction. Ammonia can cause irritability, clapping, slimming behavior, speech problems and other chemical imbalances in individuals on the autistic spectrum. Other chemical systems in the body are stressed leading to further difficulty in eradicating ammonia. Genetic mutations in the CBS and MTHFR complexes worsen this problem.

Finally, an enzyme called SUOX (sulfite oxidase) in a state of deficiency will affect the regulation of sulphates which affects glutathione production, as well as sulphates for other proteins in the body that support the protein structure. Glutathione is our body & # 39; the most powerful antioxidant and supports cell detoxification. There is a genetic disorder that leads to severe brain damage and death with SUOX enzyme deficiency, but it is likely that subclinical stressors in this enzyme could adversely affect some children on the autism spectrum, without causing a pathological process.

The likely scenario is if children have difficulty with sulfur-containing supplements (i.e. taurine, Epsom salt, MSM, methionine) that a genetic mutation pattern has occurred in the CBS and MTHFR genes and has nothing to do with an allergy sulfur – which we know is an improper term.
