Allergies to Dogs – Home Remedies

Allergies to dogs, oh how many times have I found myself frantically searching the web for “miracle cure”, so I shouldn’t have taken another trip to my wealthy vet. Collection of pages of information, looking for home remedies for my poor “Blue BO”. Try to find a way to avoid having to take even more drugs that make him so sad.

Well, I have had some success with his paws (for now). Here’s how it all went …

Me: “Oh Blue, what’s wrong with your paw?” (looks like a “Smurf” foot)

Blue: [sniff sniff, tail wagging]

Me: “Let me have a look, friend …” (after the inspection, I find what appears to be a type of sore between the toes … yes, where is the computer)

My friend Blue is a 4-year-old English Springer Spaniel (bred in the field) who has suffered from horrible allergies for the past two years. “At what?” ask … oh how would i know … from what i can conclude … EVERYTHING! He started showing symptoms around the age of 2. He had his first ear infection and things went crazy from there. I spent countless hours at the vet and enough money to bring the family to Disney … twice.

So what does a girl have to do? … Yes, I searched on Google!

Step 1: Search for “sores in dogs’ fingers” … click on the images. After looking around for a while, I found a photo that matched. I clicked to visit the site … I found a chat forum … read a bit and I found the very technical term “interdigital cyst” … Wait! I think I heard my vet say it earlier.

Step 2: Look for interdigital cysts. Let’s read what the hell they are. The Merck Veterinary Manual is pretty much my first step to all things with wet mustache and noses.

OK … so Merck still says antibiotics, etc. Etc. Absolutely not!

Step 3: look for home remedies !!! Eureka !!!

Step 4: Prepare me for HUMILATION!

The home remedy I found included Epsom salt, hydrogen peroxide and … wait for it … Preparation H. That’s right, hemorrhoid cream. (instructions on the procedure below)

It’s 10 o’clock in the evening, I have to choose “The Tween” and her friend from the roller arena 5 minutes ago and now I also have to stop at the pharmacy. So what would any normal and respectable mother do? Ah !!!! I pick up the girls BEFORE and convince them that the best way to handle this embarrassing situation is to be completely inappropriate. Why wouldn’t it be a perfect idea to buy Preparation H while scratching our butts all over the store ????

OK, products in hand, now it’s time for the experiment:

1) Soak the paw for 10 minutes in warm water with Epsom salt (I accidentally bought menthol, but it was OK)

2) Soak your paw in pure hydrogen peroxide for another 10 minutes (buddy, it’s getting late!)

3) Dry the paw thoroughly and apply free quantities of preparation H on the sores. (check out the fancy applicator lol !!)

Now I’m sure you’re wondering … “did it work?”

After applying the technique 3 times a day for 2 days … the paw returned to normal and no bacterial infection followed. Most of the time, “allergic” dogs tear these types of injuries or injuries to pieces, creating a subsequent bacterial infection that lasts for weeks and can only be resolved with a trip to the vet.

Conclusion: preparation H also works on dog paws !!!
