Allergic diet – Anti-candida diet

Although alternative medicine doctors sometimes include conventional or natural antifungal drugs in severe cases of candidiasis, diet is always an important part of the cure. While the dietary dose does not eliminate the yeast, it makes the growth of hostile bacteria more difficult.

Traditionally, anti-Candida diets are based on avoiding all sugary products since yeast thrives on sugar, alcohol (made from fermented and refined sugar), white flour, fermented and aged food products and anything containing yeast. Since meat, poultry and dairy products may contain traces of antibiotics regularly administered to conventionally bred farm animals, the consumption of organic meat and poultry (without antibiotics or hormones) is recommended. For allergy sufferers, it is prudent to avoid foods with yeast-stimulating molds (grape cheeses, fermented foods and mushrooms), as well as environmental molds to which you can now be more sensitive.

The following program has been helpful in the treatment of candidiasis and easier for patients to follow than some of the more restrictive diets.

Beneficial foods: chicken, turkey, lamb, cold water fish such as salmon, halibut and mackerel; all types of beans, lentils and dried peas; live-unsweetened yoghurt, milk substitutes such as rice milk, nut milk and soy drinks; white potatoes, sweet potatoes; brown rice, tapioca, buckwheat, millet, corn, soy and arrow root gluten-free products; fresh or frozen unsweetened fruit, canned fruit packed in water; almonds, cashews, pecans and walnuts and butters made from these walnuts; pumpkin, sesame, sunflower and pumpkin seeds and creams made with these seeds; rapeseed oil, flaxseed and olive oil not pressed by the expeller; all freshly prepared vegetables and vegetable juices.

Foods to Avoid – Beef, pork, cured meats, hot dogs, sausage, canned meat; eggs; milk, cream, cheese, ice cream, cream; all wheat products, wheat gluten, wheat flour, oats, spelled, kamut, rye, barley, amaranth, quinoa; coffee, black tea, cocoa, Postum, fizzy drinks, alcoholic drinks, citrus juices, sugary fruit juices, strawberries, dried fruit, citrus fruits; peanuts; margarine, shortening, refined oils; seasonings for bottled salads and spreads, butter (if not clarified); canned or cream soups and vegetables; and fried foods.

Herbal Additions – Also useful for removing yeast is a formula called Candacina, containing grapefruit seed extract, black walnut, gold leaf and bear berry leaf. Chlorophyll tablets can chemically create an internal environment that does not promote the growth of Candida. The pau d’arco herb has also proven useful in the fight against Candida, as well as aloe vera and biotin, a vitamin B (to be taken with the other B complex vitamins).

Some doctors administer caprylic acid, a fatty acid found in coconut oil, to their candidiasis patients before relying on conventional antifungal medications. However, many alternative medicine doctors believe that drugs like Diflucan are the best treatment for primary overgrowth. If you are taking antifungal medications, supplementation with the probiotics Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium befidum culture is recommended.
